Online Information

These are some of the sites I found which helped me find information, and thus they may help you too.

The Year of The Mite - A Wordpress blog by Jane Ishka. This place is full of gems of information by someone who has lived through it all and come out the other side.  Jane is a scientists, and very interested in the science of mite infestation and why it happens.

Shanspirations - Another blog written by a couple who had a mite infestation and came through it to tell the tale.  Another source of positive and helpful information about fighting mites.

Yahoo Bird Mites Forum - A place where those affected by mites can post, read and support one another through this horrible experience.  I must admit, I never posted here, but I read the posts from others, and just knowing there were people going through a similar experience, helped me a lot.

Interesting Articles and Papers:-

Nature
Parasite Journal
Wiley Library
An article by Dr Sparagano
Pestmail
Department of Medical Entomology
Pest Control Blog Post  - This is interesting for the comments more than the post itself.
Article from the Australian Dept for Communicable Diseases
Article from a New York Blog
Forum Post
Penn State Fact Sheet
Short NCBI article

There are numerous chicken-keeping forums and websites which are a mine of information on the issue of red spider mites. Many of them repeat the same information, but it's worth reading them for unusual nuggets of information.  As far as I'm now concerned, keeping chickens is utter madness, and I would never, ever do it.
